On the Cheap: Sri Lanka - How Get an International Drivers License
Getting an International Drivers Permit in Sri Lanka is a relatively pain free process, if you know where you're going and what you're doing.

How to get there:
Tuk tuk: Address above
Bus: Galle Face stop, opposite Taj Samudra hotel
Train: Slave Island station
Bus stop and train station locations
What to take:
1000 Sri Lankan rupees
International Drivers License from your own country
Drivers License from your own country (photo copies if you can)
Passport (photo copies if you can)
Time:
International Drivers License (from own country) holders: on the spot
Non International Drivers License (from own country) holders: few days processing time
They give you an International Drivers Permit, which you must have on you at all times when driving, in addition to your own country's drivers license and international drivers license.
We were never pulled over once, appart from when we drove onto the highway with our motorbike, which apparently is illegal! The Sri Lanka police thought it was hilarious, and kindly escorted us off the highway!
